An exciting new development in Rapid Prototyping is "Plaster". Plaster models are great for appearance models and for marketing. Although they are not as durable as ABS models, Plaster models are much less expensive.
  • Material: Plaster with a Sealing / Protecting Coating
  • Size Limits: 10" x 8" x 8" (larger parts can be done in pieces)
  • Costs for pieces not including modeling; $200 - $ 250 for first part
  • The parts receive a post process that makes them durable enough for normal handling and additional finishing, although small thin features are more delicate.
  • Turnaround: 1 business week.

Other methods of Rapid Prototyping are 3D Printing and Stereo Lithography. An advantage of 3D Printing is that it can be done in several colors without painting. An FEA analysis Stress Analysis can be imbedded in the model. The other methods need to be quoted on before a cost can be assessed.
